What is SMA?
The Stennis-Montgomery Association (SMA) is a nonpartisan student organization at Mississippi State University focused on civic engagement, professional development, and opportunities for students interested in government, public service, and public policy.
Named after the great MSU alumni, Senator John C. Stennis and Congressman G.V. Sonny Montgomery, SMA brings together students from all majors and academic backgrounds who want to learn more about government, connect with professionals, and gain firsthand experience in the world of public service.
The Washington, DC Experience
Each year the most dedicated members of the organization visit Washington D.C., to meet and network with MSU alumni, MS Congressional staff, and more. The trip gives students the opportunity to experience the nation's capital firsthand while connecting with Mississippi State alumni, congressional offices, government professionals, and other leaders working in public service.
For students interested in government or public policy, the trip provides a unique opportunity to take what they have learned in the classroom and see it in action.

Our Legacy
Named after the great MSU alumni, Senator John C. Stennis and Congressman G.V. Sonny Montgomery, the Stennis-Montgomery Association (SMA) allows students of all backgrounds and academic disciplines to become active on the political scene.
Each year the most dedicated members of the organization visit Washington D.C., to meet and network with MSU alumni, MS Congressional staff, and more. The Stennis-Montgomery Association is a non-partisan, student organization heavily involved on the Mississippi State Campus.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the organization is to provide networking and professional development opportunities for students. Ultimately, the Stennis-Montgomery Association will allow Mississippi State University’s influence in the arena of policy decision-making to become as prominent as the other great successes of the “People’s University.”
