Letter from the Director

Celebrating Fifty Years of Public Service

Letter from the Director

Friends of Stennis,

Welcome to the 2026 calendar year from all of us at the John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development at Mississippi State University. As I enter my tenth year of service as Executive Director, it is both an honor and a privilege to serve alongside some of Mississippi’s most dedicated public servants during this landmark year in the Institute’s history.

For fifty years, the Stennis Institute has been guided by a steadfast commitment to strengthening public service through premier research, training, and technical assistance. Throughout its history, the Institute has earned the trust of communities, public officials, and partners across Mississippi and the nation by delivering work grounded in integrity, professionalism, and practical impact. In 2026, we proudly celebrate the Institute’s 50th anniversary and reflect on a legacy defined by service, collaboration, and public purpose.

Serving as Executive Director during this milestone year is a distinct privilege. As we honor the Institute’s past, we remain firmly focused on the future; expanding our capacity to deliver high-quality research, training, outreach, and service that meet the evolving needs of the people and institutions we serve.

As we move into 2026, the Institute will continue to provide both in-person and virtual training, applied research, and service to those who seek our assistance. We do so with an unwavering commitment to professionalism and to the unbiased, nonpartisan principles that have defined the Stennis Institute since its founding.

It is an honor to continue serving the people of Mississippi and the nation. It is my sincere hope that public officials, government employees, and citizens alike will continue to look to the Stennis Institute as a trusted partner and resource. If I, or any member of the Institute team, can be of assistance, we welcome the opportunity to serve.

Wishing you a prosperous 2026,

Dr. Joseph 'Dallas' Breen

Executive Director
