Civic Education Resources

Welcome to the Educational and Research Materials Site of the John C. Stennis Institute of Government. When the Institute was created in 1976, one of the three objectives it was charged with was to “promote civic education and citizen involvement in the political process.” The collection of the information that can be found on this site is just one more effort, among many, to meet this objective.

You will find in the different lists (arranged in the menu at the left of your browser) such things as a complete collection of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats, the text of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and many links to lesson plans for U.S. history and government. The present collection is not complete, but I believe this will provide an excellent starting point for a beneficial resource aimed at students and teachers.

Again, we hope you find the information helpful. If you would like to make any comment or suggest ways in which we can improve this source of information, please contact the Civic Education Resources Unit at the link below.
